Staking method
Probability implied by the odds: . Kelly only stakes if your estimate is higher.
Recommended stake: €0, don't bet
At these odds, you would need more than a chance of winning for the bet to be profitable. With your estimate, it has no value: skip it.
Recommended stake
of bankroll · u (1 u = 1% of bankroll)
Bet won
Bet lost
10 losses in a row
down
Estimated value: . Full Kelly: of bankroll.
Very high Kelly stake: your estimate is probably too optimistic. Most bettors cap their stake at 2-5% of their bankroll, even when Kelly says more.
Risky stake: more than 5% of your bankroll on a single bet. A bad run can hurt quickly.
Net profit = total returned − total staked. Negative if you are down.
Yield
net profit ÷ total staked
ROI on bankroll
net profit ÷ starting bankroll
- Current bankroll
- Average stake
- Average profit per bet
- Strike rate
Fewer than 100 bets: the result still depends a lot on luck. Yield becomes meaningful over several hundred bets.
This calculator helps you size your stakes; it does not predict any result or guarantee any profit.
The 4 staking methods in this betting stake calculator
Examples with a €500 bankroll and odds of 2.00. For each method in detail, and its pitfalls, read our guide to bankroll management in sports betting.
Flat stake
The same amount on every bet. Simple, but your stake does not shrink when your bankroll does. Example: €10 on every bet.
Percentage of bankroll
A percentage of your current bankroll: your stake follows your results, down as well as up. Example: 2% of €500 = €10.
Kelly criterion
Your stake depends on the odds and your estimated probability: (odds × probability − 1) ÷ (odds − 1). Example: 55% estimated → (2 × 0.55 − 1) ÷ 1 = 10%, so €50.
Half-Kelly
Half the Kelly stake. Your estimate is never perfect: staking half as much greatly reduces the swings. Example: 10% ÷ 2 = 5%, so €25.
ROI or yield: what is the difference?
Both measure profitability, but not against the same thing. Many tipsters show an “ROI” that is actually a yield.
| Yield | ROI on bankroll | |
|---|---|---|
| Formula | Net profit ÷ total staked | Net profit ÷ starting bankroll |
| What it measures | What each euro you bet brings in | How much your capital has grown |
| Example: €300 staked, +€24, €500 bankroll | +8% | +4.8% |
To track these figures bet after bet, use Typsa Bankroll, a free bankroll tracker app: log a bet in a few seconds and your profit, ROI and strike rate are worked out for you.
